Domestic worker gratuity in the UAE should not be calculated with the standard private-sector employee formula on this website. Domestic workers are excluded from Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and are covered by separate legislation and MOHRE services.
Who is covered by the domestic-worker framework?
The domestic-worker law covers approved domestic occupations and regulates the relationship among the worker, employer and recruitment office. The contract, occupation, service history, unused leave, travel obligations and reason the relationship ends can all affect the final dues.
Why the standard gratuity calculator does not apply
The ordinary private-sector labour law expressly excludes domestic workers from its scope. Using the 21-day and 30-day formula without checking the domestic-worker rules may therefore produce an unsupported answer.
How to check domestic-worker dues
- Collect the MOHRE-approved contract and work-permit details.
- Confirm the worker’s start date and final date.
- Check unpaid salary, unused annual leave and other contractual dues.
- Use MOHRE’s official Domestic Workers Dues Calculator.
- Contact MOHRE when the parties disagree about payment.

Do not confuse a household employee with a company employee
A cleaner, driver, cook or similar worker can be employed under different arrangements. Check the sponsor, work permit and contract rather than relying on the job title alone. A worker employed by a company to provide services may fall under a different framework from a worker sponsored as domestic labour.
